New LIEBHERR Crane launched at Moby Dik
As part of its equipment upgrade programme, Moby Dik (part of the Global Ports Group) has put into operation a new mobile harbour crane, the LIEBHERR LHM 420. The crane was manufactured at LIEBHERR’s facility in Rostock (Germany) and delivered by sea to the terminal in fully-assembled condition.
Moby Dik’s new crane is one of the cutting-edge models offered by LIEBHERR. The crane has a high lifting capacity compared to its weight and due to a special design of its undercarriage, has multi-directional capability — forward, backward and sidewards. With a maximum radius of 48 meters, the LHM 420 is the ideal crane for handling vessels of different classes. All functions of the crane can be controlled either from the cabin or via remote control.
The LHM 420 has an efficient diesel engine and all mechanisms are hydraulically driven, allowingthe smooth change of operating speeds from zero to the maximum.

- lifting capacity on the hook at maximum outreach — 35 t;
- minimum and maximum outreach — 11m and 48m, respectively;
- maximum lifting height — 45m;
- own weight — 380 t.
Background
Mody Dik is a specialized container terminal located in Kronstadt (Kotlin Island), at the entrance to the St Petersburg harbour. Moby Dik is located in the immediate vicinity of Hyundai and Nissan automobile factories. The terminal is a partnership between the Global Ports Group (75%) and Container Finance Group (Finland) (25%).
