Global Ports Terminals join World Safety Day

Global Ports terminals adopt the tradition of a “World Day for Safety and Health at Work” as practised by APM Terminals.

The World Day for Safety and Health at Work was launched by the International Labour Organization (ILO), a United Nations agency, in 2003 and has been observed annually at the end of April to promote a safe and healthy work environment. Since 2007 APMT Terminals has regularly organized its own company events on the day, which this year took place on 28 April at its 65 ports and terminals around the world.

Accordingly, the management of Global Ports entities, including the Group’s six terminals in the North-West of Russia and Vopak EOS (Estonia), took part in an occupational safety workshop and discussed ways to ensure the safety of the Group’s port operations. Tiemen Meester, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Global Ports, and Anders Kjeldsen, Director for Operations of Global Ports, made a presentation on how to operatecontainer terminals in a safe but efficient way. Managing Directors of every terminal then presented their plans and initiatives to improve safety and working conditions in their respective business units. The workshop participants focused on developing measures to prevent potential incidents at the terminals and conducting analysis the risks that arise during port operations.

On the World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2015, the Group confirmed its commitment to doing everything necessary to promote safety culture and enhance safety at work. As one of the key steps, in 2015 all Global Ports terminals will enhance the safety of their operations by implementing APM Terminals’ industry-leading safety requirements. These requirements were developed and codified over decades of experience operating container terminals worldwide and cover four major operational risks: traffic, falling objects, working at heights, and compressed energy. Global Ports’ terminals propose to make the World Day for Safety and Health at Work events a annual tradition.
