A Mobile Customs Inspection System Began Work at Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company Terminal

The first mobile customs inspection system (CIS) is put into operation at the container terminal of Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company (VSC LLC), LLC. The test batch of containers underwent the procedure of customs inspection using the customs inspection system’s capabilities.

The mobile CIS, manufactured by CargoVision Mobile Company, is a mobile scanning system intended for inspection of containers and trucks by means of X-ray scanning. The system is fully automated and is capable to move independently.

The management of VSC container terminal prepared a specially equipped platform for CIS in agreement with the Far East customs. It is possible to deploy the system within 20 minutes, after which it is ready to work. Containers will be delivered to the customs platform according to working procedure by means of VSC's container transporting automobiles. The mobile CIS has a capacity of 25 containers an hour. Information from the scanner is transferred to mobile CIS operators’ monitors, whereby the operators evaluate the contents of a container.

According to John Scourtis VSC Chief Executive Officer, «it is one of the first mobile CIS systems in Russia, and for us it is very important, that it will begin working on our terminal. VSC’s main production problem is to provide timely container inspection. Introduction of progressive procedures of customs inspection, in particular, introduction of a mobile CIS system, will allow to reduce the time of customs inspection of containers. This will allow VSC to considerably increase the speed of processing container cargo and will increase the output capacity of the terminal.»
