HAMBURG SÜD Calls at Petrolesport (a Global Ports Group Company) Container Terminal for the First Time
On 20 August Petrolesport (a Global Ports Group entity) container terminal finished handling the first vessel of HAMBURG SÜD, an ocean liner operator.
SANTA GIULIANNA, a 2,000 TEU container carrier, moored at PLP terminal on 19 August. This is the first call of the ocean liner operator itself at a Russian port - earlier HAMBURG SÜD used commercial feeder services for transportation to Russia.
757 containers with export goods and empty containers owned by HAMBURG SÜD were loaded on the vessel for transport to South American ports. The transit time from Saint Petersburg to the port of Santos in San Paolo, a Brazilian megalopolis, will be a record 19 days.
"The call which took place should be viewed as a trial one. HAMBURG SÜD takes the Russian market very seriously. The company proposes to expand its presence here in the future," said Alexei Baranov, a representative of HAMBURG SÜD and General Director of CJSC International Transport and Logistics.
According to Petrolesport's Commercial Director Alexander Svetlichny, in 2009 the company implemented a large-scale programme to improve the level of service at PLP's specialized terminals. "We believe that HAMBURG SÜD's interest to PLP operations evidences that we have chosen the right strategy. "Today the technical and service level of Petrolesport container terminal meets the highest standards, and we have the leading international liner operators among our clients", Svetlichny noted.
