Corporate Citizenship

All of Global Ports’ businesses play a significant role in the economic development of their regions.

All the companies of the Group adhere to the principle of social responsibility, taking into account the interests of all stakeholders including employees, customers, local authorities, and communities. Programs are being implemented in every region where Group’s terminals operate, and these activities are aimed at supporting the social and cultural development of these regions.

The Group's activities in corporate social responsibility can be split into three core segments: environmental protection, local community involvement, and charity sponsorship. The Group is committed to its obligations in this important area and despite the financial crisis, continued its activities in corporate social responsibility.

 

Environmental protection

Environmental protection is one of the priorities of Global Ports. Since 2007, its companies have been involved in a number of long-term programs aimed at maintaining the ecological balance of the regions in which the companies operate including:

  • Moby Dik annually contributes to Environmental development program in Kronshtadt, financing a tree planting program in the city.
  • Vopak E.O.S. partnered with the Estonian Nature Society participated in the Society’s initiatives.

 

Local community involvement

Each Group company plays an important role in the social-economic life of their respective towns and regions. The companies invest in the development of the social infrastructure and cooperate with the local authorities and social institutions of their regions.

It is an important objective to Global Ports to maintain and support local cultural events in order to maintain local traditions and heritage:

  • Moby Dik and Petrolesport traditionally sponsor cultural and sports events held by local authorities.
  • In 2010 Vopak E.O.S. sponsored the 30th anniversary celebration of Maardu City, Estonia and sponsored a release of the photo book “Women of Tallinn” by photographer Wim Lamboo.
  • Every year, VSC sponsors the annual Argo music festival in the town of Nakhodka and the Neptun holiday celebration in Vrangel.

Global Ports takes a special interest in youth projects and sport initiatives:

  • In 2008-2009, the Yanino Logistics Park effected investments into the local social infrastructure, including the reconstruction of a municipal heating station and water pipes system, and the renovation of a secondary school, kindergarten and hospital in the local area.
  • In 2009 Moby Dik provided financial assistance to regional action "Graffiti - young people arts" for children, who need psychological, medical and social help and
  • In 2010 Moby Dik supported the creation and development of Marine activity programs of the Marine Council of St. Petersburg, Russia.

 

Charity

The Group’s charity programs are aimed at preserving local historical heritage, supporting schools and hospitals, and assisting in the development of sport and culture in local communities.

  • Petrolesport is a corporate partner of a number schools and hospitals in the region. In 2007 and 2008 the company made donations to the K.K.Grot school No 1 for blind and partially sighted children, Gorky Recreational and Cultural Centre, Gagarin children sanatory campus, and the “Step advance” Fund for children with disabilities.
  • Petrolesport and VSC both support the development and reconstruction of churches. In 2008 VSC provided financial support for the construction of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Religious-Educational Centre of and Kurile Eparchy in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
  • Moby Dik supports Navy Hospital No 35 and Secondary school No 424 of Krondstadt area and Children and Youth Sports School.
  • In 2009 Petrolesport and VSC donated to the Lifeline Charity Fund as part of the “Charity Instead of Souvenirs” programme.
  • VSC currently supports Hospital Vostochny, Kindergarten No 55 (an orphanage House for orphans with disabilities in Nakhodka city), the children's rehabilitation shelter “Albatros” in Vrangel village, a Maternity hospital in Nakhodka city, and a branch of neurosurgeons in Vladivostok.
  • Vopak E.O.S. supports the Maidla orphanage in Rapla, Estonia.
  • Vopak E.O.S. donated in 2010 to SOS Children’s Village, a non-profit in Estonia, which supports children without parental care.

Culture and sport programs also make up a significant part of the Group’s charity projects:

  • VSC sponsors sport clubs and dance studios in its Far East region. VSC's sponsorship list includes the Reverans sport dance club, Nakhodka's Rowsport Federation, Taekwondo Association of Vrangel, the «Ocean» Town Football Club, and the Vostochnik Hockey Club. In 2007 the company sponsored an open badminton tournament for children in Nakhodka.
  • In 2007 Moby Dik supported the VII International combat sambo tournament.
