Global Ports and social responsibility
Global Ports is the parent company of leading container and oil products handling terminals, all of whom play a significant role in the economic development in their regions.
All the companies of the Group are adherent to the principle of social responsibility, keeping in mind the interests of all stakeholders including employees, customers, local authorities, communities etc. Programs are being implemented in every region where Group’s terminals operate, and these activities are aimed at supporting the development of culture and sport, supporting local charity organizations and protecting the environment.
The Group's activities in corporate social responsibility can be split into three core segments: environmental protection, local community involvement, and charity.
Despite the crisis the Group continued its activities in corporate social responsibility.
Environmental protection
Environmental protection is one of the priorities of Global Ports. Throughout
2007-2009 and in 2010 companies were involved in a number of special programs aimed at maintaining the ecological balance in the regions where the companies operate including:
- Environment development program in Kronshtadt, financing tree planting program of the city.
- Vopak E.O.S. located and operating in Estonia, has partnered with the Estonian Nature Society providing financial support in aid of the Society’s programs.
Local community involvement
Companies of the Group play an important role in the social-economic life of their respective towns and regions. The companies invest in social infrastructure development cooperating with local authorities and social institutions of their regions.
- Moby Dik and Petrolesport traditionally sponsor cultural and sports events held by local authorities.
- In 2009 Moby Dik provided financial assistance to regional action "Graffiti - young people arts" for children, who need psychological, medical and social help.
- Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company sponsors celebrations held in Vrangel. VSC sponsors the annual Argo music festival in the town of Nakhodka and Neptun holiday celebration in Vrangel.
- In 2008-2009 Yanino Logistics Park effected investments into local social infrustructure, which includes municipal heating station and water pipes system reconstruction, secondary school, kindergarten and hospital renovation.
- In 2010 Vopak E.O.S. sponsored the 30th anniversary celebration of Maardu City, Estonia.
- In 2010 Moby Dik supports realization and development of Marine programs of Marine Council of Saint-Petersburg, Russia.
Charity
The Group’s charity programs are aimed at preserving our historical heritage, supporting schools and hospitals, and assisting in the development of sport and culture.
- Petrolesport is a partner of a number schools and hospitals. In 2007, 2008 the company made donations to the boarding school No 1 for blind and partially sighted children, named after K.K.Grot, Gorky Recreational and Cultural Centre, Gagarin children sanatory campus, Fund for children with disabilities “Step advance”.
- Petrolesport and VSC support development and reconstruction of churches. In 2008 VSC allocated over 20 million roubles (around USD 0.9 million) for construction of a Religious-Educational Centre of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and Kurile Eparchy in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
- Moby Dik supports Navy Hospital No 35 and Social centre of Kronshtadt.
- Moby Dik is financing events for those with special needs.
- In 2009 Moby Dik provided financial assistance for organization of summer holidays for orphans.
- In 2009 Petrolesport and VSC donated to the Lifeline Charity Fund as part of the Charity Instead of Souvenirs programme.
- In 2009 and 2010 VSC donated to the Charity Fund of education assistance "DAR".
- VSC supports Vostochnii hospital, special orphanage of Nakhodka, Albatros underage social centre.
- Vopak E.O.S. supports Maidla orphanage located in Rapla county, Estonia.
Culture and sport programs make up a significant part of the Group’s charity projects.
- VSC sponsors sport clubs and dance studios in its region. VSC's “fosterling” list includes Reverans sport dance club, Nakhodka's Rowsport Federation, Taekwondo Association of Vrangel, Vostochnik Hockey Club. In 2007 the company sponsored open badminton tournament for children in Nakhodka.
- In 2007 Moby Dik supported the VII International combat sambo tournament.
